“Save Malibu Lagoon”
Despite best efforts, the well-organized alliance of surfers, environmental activists, Malibu locals and celebrities lost the Malibu Lagoon battle to the state of California. The infamous Malibu Lagoon was bulldozed in early June as part of an $8-million restoration project that will allegedly heal the lagoon. The four-month project aims to create an ecosystem that will filter water pollutants more efficiently — thus supporting more plants, birds and fish. Those in charge of the project claim it will have no negative effect on waves at Surfrider Beach. That is yet to be determined.

- Workers survey the land.
- My brother and I used to walk the nature preserve during our Sunday Sessions. Sadly, this option exists no more.
- Time will tell.
